Xanthan gum: applications, challenges, and advantages of this asset of biotechnological origin

چکیده
: Cosmetic formulators have numerous thickeners at their disposal to stabilize and increase the viscosity of formulations. Traditionally, some ingredients are most widely used for these purposes, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, other cellulose derivatives, well carbomer acrylic acid derivatives (acrylates). As an alternative chemical compounds, many them fossil origin, there gums natural guar gum, Arabic pectin, alginate. There also mineral aluminum magnesium silicates, bentonite, hectorite. However, xanthan gum stands out among all others due its biotechnological which allows insertion ingredient that in addition causing can bring a greater degree sustainability final product. Xanthan is anionic polysaccharide, with high molecular weight, industrially produced by bacterium Xanthomonas sp. This forms pseudoplastic solutions, showing good flow behavior. In formulation stability, it brings sensory characteristics, pleasant light structure It versatile, be hot cold formulations stable over wide range pH temperature. toothpaste, creams, lotions, shampoos, etc. work highlights properties applications cosmetic industry, section dedicated exposing discussing advantages this asset, about competing product and, consequently, company uses it.

Xanthan gum: production, recovery, and properties.
Xanthan gum is a microbial polysaccharide of great commercial significance. This review focuses on various aspects of xanthan production, including the producing organism Xanthomonas campestris, the kinetics of growth and production, the downstream recovery of the polysaccharide, and the solution properties of xanthan.
متن کاملBiodegradation of Xanthan Gum by Bacillus sp.
Strains tentatively identified as Bacillus sp. were isolated from sewage sludge and soil and shown to elaborate extracellular enzymes that degrade the extracellular polysaccharide (xanthan gum, polysaccharide B-1459) of Xanthomonas campestris NRRL B-1459. Enzyme production by one strain was greatly enhanced when the strain was incubated in a mixed culture. Products of degradation were identifie...
متن کاملXanthan gum and colonic function in man.
It was with interest that I read this paper, which looks at the effect of feeding xanthan gum on colonic function in man. The authors look at whether it is possible to predict the laxative effect of a polysaccharide from its fermentation characteristics in vitro, as proposed by Adiotomre et al. (1990). However, the authors have not used the methodology used in the Adiotomre paper and, therefore...
متن کاملInvestigations on interpolymer complexes of cationic guar gum and xanthan gum for formulation of bioadhesive films
The present study was aimed at evaluating the possible use of inter polymer complexed (IPC) films of xanthan gum (XG) and cationic guar gum (CGG) for formulating domperidone bioadhesive films. Formation of bonds between -COO¯ groups of XG and -N(+)(CH(3))(3) groups of CGG was evident in the FTIR spectra of IPC films. Bioadhesive strength of the films was evaluated employing texture analyser. Wa...
متن کاملSynthesis of novel biodegradable antibacterial grafted xanthan gum.
Xanthan gum (XG) is natural polysaccharides used in food industries as stabilizers and thickener agents. The problem is that some food products are found to be contaminated by pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphyloccus aureus (S. aureus) that reduce their shelf life. This research aims to synthesize biodegradable antibacterial XG-grafted-poly(N-vinyl imidazole) PVI ...
